Creamy Slow Cooker Chicken Tikka Masala with Fragrant Indian Spices — My Moroccan-French Secret for a Silky Slow-Cooker Sauce
I can still picture myself huddled over a steaming bowl of chicken tikka masala on a rainy evening during my Paris culinary-school days. It was love at first bite — that fire-roasted chicken, that velvety tomato-cream sauce, those warm, fragrant spices swirling together in perfect harmony. Fast-forward to today, and my New York kitchen is where I’ve perfected my very own slow cooker chicken tikka masala. This isn’t just an easy chicken tikka masala recipe; it’s a creamy chicken tikka masala that borrows from my Moroccan roots and classic French technique. The secret? Blooming the spices in oil before they ever touch the slow cooker, then letting coconut milk and heavy cream create the silkiest, most luxurious sauce you’ll ever spoon over basmati rice.
Here’s what I want you to imagine: chicken thighs so tender they yield at a gentle tug of your fork. A sauce that’s deep orange-red, rich with caramelized onion, bright with tomato, and laced with toasted cumin, coriander, and smoked paprika. The first whiff hits you with garlic and ginger; the first spoonful coats your tongue with velvety coconut milk and a whisper of cream, all warmed by a shower of fresh cilantro. It’s the kind of aroma that drifts through your entire apartment and makes your neighbors text you asking what in the world you’re cooking. That’s exactly the magic of this chicken tikka masala slow cooker version — every spice is toasted and bloomed to unlock its essential oils, giving the dish a depth that rivals any restaurant takeout.
I’ve worked long enough in professional kitchens — from Paris brasseries to New York pop-ups — to know that the best food is equal parts love and technique. So I’m sharing my hard-earned secrets with you in this easy chicken tikka masala recipe: bloom your spices, use full-fat coconut milk, and resist every urge to peek under that slow cooker lid for the first few hours. These are small steps that make an enormous difference. I’ll also walk you through the biggest mistake I see home cooks make with the creamy sauce (hint: it involves the heavy cream going in too early). Stick with me — you’re about to become the hero of your own weeknight kitchen, and this chicken tikka masala with coconut milk will be the dish everyone begs you to make again.
Why This Slow Cooker Chicken Tikka Masala Is the Best
The Flavor Secret: The most important step in this entire slow cooker chicken tikka masala recipe happens before anything ever goes into the crock. Blooming the spices — gently frying them in oil with the aromatics — wakes up their fat-soluble flavor compounds in a way that’s impossible to achieve by simply dumping them into the slow cooker raw. It’s a technique I use constantly from my culinary training in Paris: hot oil releases the essential oils in cumin, coriander, turmeric, and paprika, transforming them from dusty powders into a deeply fragrant, translucent spice base. In Morocco, my mother always toasted her spices before grinding them by hand in her mortar — same principle, passed down through generations. This one habit elevates this creamy chicken tikka masala from good to genuinely unforgettable.
Perfected Texture: The texture of a truly great creamy chicken tikka masala is all about balance. Here, I use both full-fat coconut milk and heavy cream for a sauce that’s luxuriously rich without being heavy. Coconut milk adds a gentle tropical sweetness that complements the warm Indian spices beautifully. Heavy cream, stirred in only during the final 20 minutes, keeps the sauce velvety and prevents curdling. Meanwhile, the chicken thighs release just enough collagen to enrich the sauce naturally, giving it body without any flour, cornstarch, or browning tricks. The result? A silky, spoon-coating sauce that clings to every grain of basmati rice just the way it should — a hallmark of the best chicken tikka masala you’ll ever make at home.
Foolproof & Fast: For anyone new to slow cooker chicken tikka masala, this easy chicken tikka masala recipe is the perfect starting point. There’s no marinating required, no grill rack to clean, no complicated steps. Everything goes into the slow cooker after a quick 6-minute sauté, and then the appliance does all the work. It’s the kind of meal I rely on after a long day of writing in Manhattan — I start the slow cooker at lunchtime, and by dinner, my apartment smells like a spice bazaar. You don’t need to be a trained chef to nail this chicken tikka masala in a slow cooker; you just need to follow a few simple steps, and I’ll guide you through every single one.
Slow Cooker Chicken Tikka Masala Ingredients
Every ingredient in this slow cooker chicken tikka masala is easy to find at any American grocery store. In New York, I love shopping the spice aisle in Little India on Lexington Avenue, but the same garam masala and tikka masala paste are on the shelves at Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, and even Target. The key is freshness: if your spices have been sitting in the cabinet for more than six months, please treat yourself to new ones. Your chicken tikka masala slow cooker meal will thank you in the most delicious way possible.

Ingredient Spotlight
Chicken Thighs: Boneless, skinless thighs are the single best choice for this slow cooker chicken tikka masala. They’re more forgiving than breasts and stay succulent through hours of cooking. Look for organic or air-chilled thighs — they brown better and have a richer, cleaner flavor. The extra fat keeps the meat moist and gives the sauce a natural richness.
Tikka Masala Paste: This is the shortcut that makes this creamy chicken tikka masala recipe weeknight-friendly. Brands like Patak’s or Maya Kaimal are excellent. The paste is a busy chef’s best friend — it’s packed with concentrated spices, ginger, and garlic that give the dish instant depth. Store the jar in the fridge after opening, and it’ll keep for months.
Coconut Milk: Full-fat coconut milk is the secret to the silkiest sauce. Shake the can well before opening — the cream naturally separates from the water. For this chicken tikka masala with coconut milk, I strongly advise against lite versions; they produce a thin, watery sauce and miss that luxurious mouthfeel completely.
Heavy Cream: Stirred in at the end, heavy cream adds restaurant-level richness and a beautiful glossy finish. I tested this recipe with half-and-half, and while it works, heavy cream gives the sauce that velvety texture that defines an indulgent creamy chicken tikka masala. Warm it slightly before adding to prevent any shock to the sauce.
Garam Masala: This warm, complex spice blend is the heart and soul of so much Indian cooking. I like to add half at the beginning for a deep base layer, and — if you want extra aroma — a pinch more right before serving. It’s the fragrance that makes guests close their eyes and sigh.
| Original Ingredient | Best Substitution | Flavor / Texture Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Tikka Masala Paste | 2 tbsp garam masala + 1 tbsp tomato paste + 1 tsp paprika + pinch of sugar | Less complex but still vibrant; slightly more DIY-driven |
| Full-Fat Coconut Milk | 1 cup heavy cream + 1 cup whole milk + 1 tbsp sugar | Richer and more dairy-forward; less coconut aroma |
| Chicken Thighs | Chicken breasts, cut into 2-inch pieces | Leaner; slightly less tender. Reduce cooking time by 1 hour on LOW to prevent dryness |
| Heavy Cream | Extra ½ cup coconut cream + 1 tbsp cornstarch slurry | 100% dairy-free; slightly sweeter and thinner — thicken at the end |
| Garam Masala | Pumpkin pie spice + ½ tsp black pepper + ¼ tsp ground cloves (emergency only) | Warming and aromatic, but not authentic — a true pinch-hitter |
How to Make Creamy Chicken Tikka Masala in the Slow Cooker — Step by Step
Making this dish is genuinely one of the most rewarding things you can do in your kitchen. It comes together in about 15 minutes of hands-on time, and then your slow cooker transforms all those gorgeous ingredients into something restaurant-worthy. Follow these steps — each one matters.
Step 1: Sauté the Onions
Set a large skillet over medium heat and add the olive oil. When it shimmers, add the finely diced onion. Cook for 4–5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onion is soft, translucent, and just beginning to turn golden at the edges. This step lays the sweet, savory foundation for the entire sauce. Don’t rush it — a quickly sautéed onion is one of the biggest reasons homemade curry tastes flat.
💡 Stella’s Pro Tip: Dice the onion uniformly — about ¼-inch pieces. Even pieces cook at the same rate, so you never end up with crunchy raw bits in the sauce.
Step 2: Bloom the Garlic and Ginger
Add the minced garlic and grated fresh ginger to the softened onion. Cook for one minute, stirring constantly, until the kitchen fills with that incredible, pungent aroma. Fresh ginger and garlic are non-negotiable here; they add a brightness that no dried version can match. This is the moment when your home starts to smell like an Indian restaurant.
⚠️ Common Mistake to Avoid: Garlic burns quickly at this point, turning bitter and acrid. Keep the heat at medium or even medium-low, and stir constantly for that full minute.
Step 3: Bloom the Spices
Stir in the tikka masala paste, garam masala, curry powder, smoked paprika, ground cumin, ground coriander, turmeric, and cayenne (if using). Cook for one minute, stirring constantly. Watch the mixture transform into a dark, fragrant, brick-red paste — this is the flavor base for your entire dish. You’ll see the spices absorb the oil and become intensely aromatic.
💡 Stella’s Pro Tip: This is the technique my French chef instructors drilled into us in Paris — coaxing the aromatic oils out of every spice. If the mixture looks too dry, add a tiny splash of water or olive oil to keep it from scorching.
Step 4: Transfer to the Slow Cooker
Scrape every last bit of the spiced onion mixture into the slow cooker insert. Don’t leave any deeply flavored paste behind — that’s pure gold. Use a silicone spatula to get into the corners of the skillet. Your slow cooker is now starting to hold the beginnings of something wonderful.
⚠️ Common Mistake to Avoid: Leaving the flavorful browned bits (called the “fond”) behind on the skillet means losing a layer of flavor. Deglaze the pan with a splash of tomato sauce so you capture absolutely everything.
Step 5: Add the Chicken, Tomatoes, and Coconut Milk
Add the bite-sized chicken thighs, tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, full-fat coconut milk, brown sugar, lemon juice, salt, and pepper to the slow cooker. Use your spatula to stir everything together until the sauce looks uniform and creamy. This is where the dish really comes together visually — that gorgeous orange-red hue starts to appear.
💡 Stella’s Pro Tip: Cut the chicken thighs into consistent 1½-inch pieces. Uniform pieces all finish cooking at the same time, so every bite is perfectly tender instead of a mix of dry and undercooked pieces.
Step 6: Stir Everything Together
Take an extra minute to stir the mixture thoroughly. You want no pockets of tomato paste or unblended coconut milk hiding anywhere in the pot. The sauce should look evenly orange-red and slightly glossy. At this point, you can also taste the liquid and adjust the salt before the flavors intensify during cooking. Remember that some flavors concentrate, so go light on the salt now.
⚠️ Common Mistake to Avoid: It’s tempting to skip the stirring, but ingredients settle as they cook. If paste or coconut milk remain in clumps, those pockets will taste sharp and unintegrated. Stir now, save flavor later.
Step 7: Slow Cook Low and Slow
Cover the slow cooker and set it to LOW for 6–7 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until the chicken is fork-tender. For this chicken tikka masala in the slow cooker, I always prefer LOW — the longer, gentler time lets the sauce deepen and the spices mellow into a perfectly balanced whole. The chicken will be unmistakably tender when it’s ready.
💡 Stella’s Pro Tip: Resist the urge to lift the lid! Every time you lift it, you release heat and add 20–30 minutes of cooking time. Also, since we’re using chicken thighs, there’s no need to shred the chicken — it should be perfectly fork-tender all on its own.
Step 8: Stir in the Heavy Cream
During the last 20 minutes of cooking, pour in the heavy cream and gently stir it through the sauce. It will transform the gravy from bright tomato-red to a softer, sunset-orange hue while adding that rich, velvety finish. Replace the lid and let it warm through for the remaining time. This is the moment your creamy chicken tikka masala becomes truly luxurious.
⚠️ Common Mistake to Avoid: This is exactly the issue I get asked about most — adding cream at the beginning of cooking causes it to separate and curdle in the heat. Always add it at the very end, the way we do in this easy chicken tikka masala recipe.
Step 9: Taste and Adjust
Taste the sauce (careful — it’s hot!) and decide what it needs. Often, a little more salt brings everything into focus; other times, another squeeze of lemon juice adds the bright snap that balances all that rich cream and spice. The flavors should feel round, vibrant, and deeply satisfying. Trust your palate.
💡 Stella’s Pro Tip: I keep the lemon-wedge tradition from my Moroccan kitchen close to my heart — a squeeze of lemon juice at the end brightens heavy sauces in the same way a chef uses vinegar to finish a French pan sauce. Add more brown sugar only if you prefer a sweeter tikka masala.
Step 10: Garnish and Serve
Turn off the slow cooker and let the sauce settle for 5 minutes. Sprinkle generously with chopped fresh cilantro, then scoop the chicken tikka masala over a mound of fluffy basmati rice. Serve with warm naan bread for sopping up every last drop of that magnificent sauce. Your family is about to be very, very impressed.
⚠️ Common Mistake to Avoid: Serving straight from the pot without resting is a small misstep. Those 5 minutes allow the sauce to relax and thicken slightly, so it clings beautifully to rice instead of pooling in a watery puddle.
| Step | Action | Duration | Key Visual Cue |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Sauté onion in olive oil | 4–5 minutes | Soft, translucent, golden edges |
| 2 | Cook garlic + ginger | 1 minute | Pungent, fragrant aroma |
| 3 | Bloom spice mixture | 1 minute | Dark red, glossy paste |
| 4 | Transfer to slow cooker | 2 minutes | Skillet scraped completely clean |
| 5 | Add chicken + wet ingredients | 5 minutes | Sauce uniformly orange-red |
| 6 | Stir well | 2 minutes | No lumps, even color throughout |
| 7 | Cook on LOW / HIGH | 6–7 hrs LOW / 3–4 hrs HIGH | Chicken fork-tender |
| 8 | Stir in heavy cream | Last 20 minutes | Sunset-orange velvety sauce |
| 9 | Taste + adjust seasoning | 2 minutes | Balanced, vibrant flavor |
| 10 | Garnish + rest | 5 minutes | Glossy, thickened sauce with cilantro |
Serving & Presentation
As a classically trained cook who now lives in New York, I’ve learned that plating matters just as much as flavor. For this creamy slow cooker chicken tikka masala, I love a wide, shallow bowl. Spoon the fluffy basmati rice into the center, making a slight well, then ladle the creamy curry right into that well so the sauce naturally cascades over the rice like a slow orange river. Finish with a drizzle of extra coconut cream or heavy cream, a generous shower of cilantro leaves, and a few thin slices of fresh red chili if you like a little spark of heat. Each serving clocks in around 485 calories — a satisfying, well-rounded meal that feels far more indulgent than it actually is.
Warm naan bread is non-negotiable in my house. I brush it with a little garlic butter and warm it in the oven or a dry skillet until it’s pillowy and charred at the edges. You’ll be tempted to eat the whole basket before the main event arrives at the table — that’s totally fine by me. I also love to keep a small bowl of thinly sliced red onion and cucumber on the table, sprinkled with lemon juice and a pinch of salt. It’s a bright, crunchy counterpoint that I grew up eating alongside similar dishes in Morocco, and it works beautifully with the richness of this chicken tikka masala.
| Pairing Type | Suggestions | Why It Works |
|---|---|---|
| Side Dish | Basmati rice, jasmine rice, cauliflower rice | Neutral, fluffy grains absorb the rich sauce beautifully |
| Sauce / Dip | Cooling cucumber raita, mango chutney, mint yogurt | Cold, tangy contrasts tame the spice and refresh the palate |
| Beverage | Mango lassi, masala chai, light lager beer | Sweet and creamy drinks soften heat; beer cuts through richness |
| Garnish | Fresh cilantro, cream drizzle, lemon wedges, sliced red chili | Adds freshness, brightness, color, and a pop of heat |
Make-Ahead, Storage & Reheating
When life gets as busy as a New York minute, I always make a double batch of this slow cooker chicken tikka masala. The leftovers keep beautifully, and the sauce often tastes even better the next day after all the spices have had time to mingle and mature. Here’s exactly how I store and reheat this creamy chicken tikka masala in my own kitchen, so nothing goes to waste and every bite still feels freshly made.
| Method | Container | Duration | Reheating Tip |
|---|---|---|---|
| Refrigerator | Airtight glass container | Up to 4 days | Reheat gently on stovetop over LOW with a splash of water or chicken broth |
| Freezer | Freezer-safe container or zip-top bag with air removed | Up to 3 months | Thaw overnight in fridge, then reheat over medium-low, stirring occasionally |
| Make-Ahead | Slow cooker liner or covered bowl | Up to 24 hours ahead | Assemble all ingredients in liner, refrigerate, then add 15–20 mins cook time when starting cold |
One thing I want to emphasize: when reheating, always go low and slow. High heat is the enemy of this dish because it can separate the cream and cause the sauce to become greasy. If the sauce looks too thick when you reheat it, loosen it with a splash of chicken broth, coconut milk, or water — it will come right back to life. And whatever you do, don’t microwave a full bowl for five minutes on high; use short 30-second bursts at 50% power, stirring between each. Patience pays off.
Variations & Easy Swaps
This easy chicken tikka masala recipe is wonderfully adaptable. After you’ve made it once or twice, feel free to play. In my New York kitchen, I’m always dreaming up new twists — and each variation below comes straight from my own testing. Whether you’re feeding a vegan friend, craving butter chicken, or feeling a Moroccan pull like I always do, there’s a version here for you.
| Variation | Key Change | Best For | Difficulty Impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| Butter Chicken Style | Add 3 tbsp butter + 1 tsp dried fenugreek leaves at the end; replace coconut milk with 1½ cups heavy cream | Fans of mild, ultra-rich Indian curry | No change |
| Vegan / Plant-Based | Swap chicken for chickpeas or pan-seared tofu; use only coconut milk, skip heavy cream | Plant-based eaters | Easy |
| Smoky Harissa Twist | Use 2 tbsp harissa paste instead of tikka masala paste + 1 chopped roasted red pepper | Moroccan fusion lovers | Easy |
Butter Chicken Style Variation
This is the variation I make when I’m craving the ultimate comfort-food curry. During the last 20 minutes of cooking, stir in 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter (cut into small cubes) along with a teaspoon of dried fenugreek leaves — an ingredient that gives butter chicken its distinctive, slightly nutty, almost maple-like aroma. The butter adds a glossy, silky richness that’s perfect with warm garlic naan. I like to transfer everything to a stovetop pan for a final 5-minute simmer, which deepens the sauce and ties all the flavors together beautifully. It’s comfort in a bowl, with roots that feel both Indian and universally familiar.
Vegan / Plant-Based Variation
For a completely plant-based take on this easy chicken tikka masala recipe, I swap the chicken thighs for two cans of drained chickpeas or a block of extra-firm tofu that’s been pressed and pan-seared until golden. Replace the heavy cream entirely with the full-fat coconut milk measured as your creamy element — you don’t need anything else. The result is a dairy-free, vegan-friendly curry that still has plenty of body and depth. If there’s one tip I’ll stress here: do not skip the spice-blooming step, even if you’re a plant-based cook. It’s what gives a vegan version its soul and that deep, slow-cooked flavor.
Smoky Harissa Twist
As a Moroccan girl at heart, I absolutely love blending the flavor traditions of my heritage into classic Indian dishes. For this variation, replace the tikka masala paste with 2 tablespoons of harissa paste and add one roughly chopped roasted red pepper from a jar. Harissa brings a smoky, gently spicy, deeply aromatic layer that harmonizes with the coconut milk in a surprisingly elegant way. Serve it with fluffy couscous and a sprinkle of fresh mint for an evening that honors both North Africa and the Indian subcontinent — two of the world’s greatest spice cultures. It’s fusion food done right.
Can I use chicken thighs instead of chicken breasts in slow cooker chicken tikka masala?
Absolutely — and in fact, I strongly recommend it! Boneless, skinless chicken thighs are actually the better choice for this slow cooker chicken tikka masala recipe. They have a higher fat content, which means they stay moist and tender even after 6–7 hours of slow cooking. Chicken breasts can work if that’s all you have, but they tend to dry out more easily in a slow cooker. If you do use breasts, cut them into larger 2-inch pieces and check for doneness around the 3-hour mark on LOW to keep them from turning tough.
How do I prevent the cream from curdling in a slow cooker chicken tikka masala?
The single most important rule is to add the heavy cream only during the last 15–20 minutes of cooking, exactly as we do in this creamy chicken tikka masala recipe. If the cream goes in at the beginning, the long, high heat causes the milk proteins to separate and curdle. It also helps to use full-fat coconut milk as a stabilizer — it brings a smooth, silky texture that naturally resists curdling. Finally, always give the sauce a good stir before adding the cream, and avoid running the slow cooker on HIGH after the cream is in; switch to LOW or WARM instead.
What is the best way to thicken creamy chicken tikka masala sauce in a slow cooker?
Start by letting the sauce cook with the lid off for 20–30 minutes to allow excess moisture to steam away — this is the most natural method, and it deepens the flavor at the same time. If you need a quicker fix, mix one tablespoon of cornstarch with two tablespoons of cold water until smooth, then pour the slurry into the bubbling sauce and cook for another 10 minutes. A spoonful of tomato paste can also help thicken the sauce while intensifying the tomato flavor. Never add flour directly to the pot; it will clump and leave a raw, pasty taste behind.
How long should I cook chicken tikka masala in a slow cooker on low vs. high?
For this slow cooker chicken tikka masala, cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours. I strongly prefer the LOW setting — the longer, gentler cooking time allows the chicken thighs to become exceptionally tender and gives the tomato-coconut sauce time to deepen and mellow into a perfectly harmonized sauce. If you’re in a total time crunch, HIGH for 3 to 3.5 hours will work but will produce a slightly less developed flavor. Remember that all slow cookers run differently, so always check your chicken for fork-tenderness rather than trusting the timer completely.
Is slow cooker chicken tikka masala gluten-free?
Yes! This easy chicken tikka masala recipe is naturally gluten-free, as long as you double-check your spice labels. Turmeric, garam masala, curry powder, and paprika are all naturally gluten-free, but some commercial spice blends add flour or anti-caking agents. Stick to brands that explicitly state “gluten-free” on the label to be safe. Tikka masala paste can also occasionally contain trace gluten — I recommend Patak’s or Maya Kaimal, both of which are gluten-free. Serve the curry with cauliflower rice or certified gluten-free naan, and you’re completely in the clear.
Can I freeze creamy chicken tikka masala?
Yes, creamy chicken tikka masala freezes beautifully and is one of the best make-ahead meals I know. Store it in a freezer-safe airtight container or a heavy-duty zip-top bag, squeezing out as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn. It will keep for up to 3 months. The sauce may separate slightly after thawing, but that’s completely normal — the coconut milk and cream will recombine with gentle stirring. Just reheat over low heat, adding a splash of water or chicken broth to restore its silky consistency. I like to freeze individual portions so I can pull out exactly one serving on busy weeknights.
What can I use instead of coconut milk in chicken tikka masala?
If you’re out of coconut milk or want a more traditional, dairy-heavy sauce, the best substitution is a combination of 1 cup heavy cream and 1 cup whole milk, plus a tablespoon of sugar to mimic coconut milk’s gentle sweetness. You could also use Greek yogurt, but you must be careful: yogurt can curdle in a slow cooker, so stir it in at the very end and keep the heat low. Another excellent option is cashew cream — soak raw cashews in hot water, then blend with fresh water until perfectly smooth. Each swap changes the flavor slightly, but all of them work wonderfully in this creamy chicken tikka masala recipe.
Why did my slow cooker chicken tikka masala sauce curdle?
The most common causes are adding dairy too early, cooking on HIGH for too long, or pouring cold cream straight from the fridge into the hot sauce. When heavy cream or yogurt is exposed to prolonged high heat, the proteins denature and separate, leaving an unpleasant, grainy texture. The fix for next time: add warm or room-temperature cream at the very end of cooking, stir gently, and keep the slow cooker on LOW or switch to WARM. If your sauce has already curdled, try blending it with an immersion blender for 30 seconds — it won’t perfect the texture, but it often smooths out the worst of it.
What should I serve with chicken tikka masala?
Basmati rice is the classic pairing because the long, fragrant grains soak up the tomato-coconut sauce beautifully. For a lower-carb option, cauliflower rice works surprisingly well. Always include warm naan bread — brushed with garlic butter and toasted until charred — for scooping up every last drop. On the side, I love a cooling cucumber raita or a simple green salad with lemon vinaigrette, plus a bowl of mango chutney for sweet tanginess. And for a Moroccan touch that I personally adore, set out a few lemon wedges; a squeeze of fresh lemon over the top brightens the entire bowl.
Can I make this easy chicken tikka masala recipe without any dairy?
Yes! This is one of the most adaptable chicken tikka masala recipes out there. Simply omit the heavy cream and use the full 13.5-ounce can of full-fat coconut milk as your only creamy element. The sauce will still be wonderfully rich and velvety, thanks to the natural creaminess of the coconut milk. To get an even more luxurious texture, stir in an extra quarter-cup of coconut cream at the end. You can also add a splash of unsweetened almond milk or oat milk if the sauce needs loosening. Just stay away from skim milk or watery alternatives — they’ll make the sauce thin and dull.
