Best Southern Vanilla Butter Pecan Cake

A rich and moist vanilla cake loaded with buttery pecans for a classic Southern dessert.

For the Crust:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  3. Mix in vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Alternately add the flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour. Fold in chopped pecans.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
