Cheesy French Onion Meatball Melts

Savory meatballs smothered in caramelized onions and melted cheese, served on toasted bread for a delicious twist on French onion soup.

For the Crust:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls, toasted

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 375Β°F. Mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Form into 12 meatballs and bake for 20 minutes.
  2. While meatballs cook, melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook until caramelized (about 15 minutes). Stir in beef broth and thyme.
  3. Add cooked meatballs to the onion mixture. Top with provolone and Swiss cheese. Cover until cheese melts.
  4. Spoon meatballs and onion mixture onto toasted hoagie rolls. Serve immediately.

Notes

You can customize the seasonings to taste.
