Cheesy Hot Beef Sandwich

Tender roast beef in rich gravy topped with melted cheese on toasted buns. The ultimate comfort food sandwich.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound thinly sliced roast beef.
  • 1 onion, chopped.
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced.
  • 2 tablespoons butter.
  • 2 tablespoons flour.
  • 1 cup beef broth.
  • 1/2 cup milk.
  • 4 slices cheese (provolone/Swiss).
  • 4 hamburger buns.
  • Salt and pepper.
  • Butter for buns.
  • Optional toppings (lettuce, tomato, pickles).

Instructions

  1. Sauté onion and garlic in butter.
  2. Add flour to make roux, cook 2 minutes.
  3. Gradually add broth and milk, stirring until thickened.
  4. Season gravy with salt and pepper.
  5. Add beef, simmer until heated.
  6. Toast buttered buns until golden.
  7. Layer beef and cheese on buns.
  8. Add optional toppings and serve hot.

Notes

Make roux for smooth gravy.
Use sturdy buns.
Serve immediately.
Great for leftover beef.
