- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 tablespoons milk
- Optional: Food coloring and sprinkles for decoration
Instructions
- 1. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, and baking powder; set aside.
- 2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until smooth.
- 3. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
- 4. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients, then stir in the milk.
- 5. Cover and chill dough for at least 1 hour.
- 6. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- 7. Roll out dough on floured surface to 1/4 inch thick.
- 8. Cut into shapes with cookie cutters.
- 9. Place cookies 1 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheets.
- 10. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven.
- 11. Cool completely before decorating.
Notes
Chill the dough to prevent spreading; use royal icing for hard decorations.
