Classic Chili Dog Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it up with a spoon, until no longer pink.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Pour in the beef broth and bring the mixture to a simmer.
  5. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  6. Serve hot over grilled hot dogs.

Notes

For a spicier version, add cayenne pepper to taste. This sauce can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
