Classic Scotch Meat Pies

A traditional Scottish meat pie filled with savory ground beef, onions, and spices, baked in a flaky pastry crust for a comforting homemade meal.

Ingredients

  • 500g ground beef
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 cup beef stock
  • 2 sheets puff pastry
  • 1 egg, beaten for egg wash

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain excess fat.
  3. Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and beef stock. Simmer for 10 minutes until the mixture thickens.
  5. Roll out the puff pastry and cut into circles for the pie bases and tops.
  6. Place the meat mixture on the pastry bases and cover with pastry tops, sealing the edges.
  7. Brush the tops with beaten egg and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

These pies are best served warm and can be frozen for up to a month. Pair with a side of vegetables for a complete meal.
