Classic Golden Skillet Cornbread with Honey Butter

Ingredients

  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 large egg
  • For Honey Butter: 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons honey

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Place a 9-inch cast-iron skillet in the oven to heat.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together milk, oil, and egg.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  5. Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven and add a little oil or butter to coat.
  6. Pour the batter into the skillet and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  8. For Honey Butter: In a small bowl, mix softened butter and honey until smooth. Serve with the warm cornbread.
