Ingredients
Scale
- Dough:
- 2 and 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup whole milk, warmed to about 110°F
- 1 large egg, at room temperature
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 and 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- Filling:
- 1 cup cranberry sauce
- 8 ounces brie cheese, rind removed and sliced
- Egg wash:
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon milk
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk the yeast and sugar into the warm milk. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add the egg, salt, and 2 cups of flour. Mix until combined, then add the softened butter and remaining flour.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled.
- Punch down the dough and divide into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 10-inch circle.
- Place one circle on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Spread half of the cranberry sauce over it, leaving a 1-inch border. Add half the brie slices.
- Top with another dough circle and repeat the filling layers. Add the third circle and repeat if desired, then top with the fourth circle.
- Place a 2-inch round object in the center. Cut the dough into 16 equal strips from the edge to the center object.
- Twist two strips together and pinch at the ends to form points. Repeat around the circle.
- Cover and let rise for 20-30 minutes. Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Brush with egg wash and bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For a festive touch, sprinkle with powdered sugar after baking. Ensure the brie is at room temperature for easier spreading.
