For the Crust:
- 1 lb Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1 small onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tsp dried basil
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- In a large pot, cook the Italian sausage over medium heat until browned, breaking it into crumbles as it cooks.
- Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pot. Sauté until the onion is translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
- Pour in the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a simmer. Let it cook for 10 minutes.
- Stir in the heavy cream, Parmesan cheese, basil, oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using). Season with salt and black pepper to taste.
- Simmer for another 5 minutes, then add the chopped spinach. Cook until the spinach is wilted, about 2 minutes.
- Serve hot with extra Parmesan cheese on top if desired.
