For the Crust:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup poppy seeds
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1 tbsp orange zest
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, poppy seeds, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream butter until smooth. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in orange juice, zest, and vanilla.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
- Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Let cake cool in pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
