French Onion Meatballs with Savory Onion Sauce

  • For the Meatballs:
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • For the Sauce:
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon thyme

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F.
  2. In a bowl, mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper. Form into 1-inch meatballs.
  3. Place meatballs on a baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes.
  4. In a skillet, sauté onions and garlic until caramelized.
  5. Add beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme to the skillet. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  6. Add baked meatballs to the sauce and cook for another 10 minutes.

Notes

Serve with crusty bread for dipping. This recipe pairs well with a side salad.
