Rich and Tender French Onion Short Ribs with Gruyere Cheese Toast

Ingredients

  • 3 pounds beef short ribs
  • 4 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 slices Gruyere cheese
  • 4 slices French bread

Instructions

  1. Season short ribs with salt and pepper.
  2. In a large pot, heat olive oil and brown the short ribs on all sides.
  3. Remove ribs and add onions and garlic to the pot; cook until caramelized.
  4. Add beef broth, red wine, and thyme; return ribs to the pot.
  5. Cover and simmer on low heat for 2-3 hours until ribs are tender.
  6. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  7. Place bread slices on a baking sheet, top with Gruyere cheese, and bake until cheese melts.
  8. Serve ribs with the onion gravy and top with cheese toast.

Notes

For best results, use high-quality beef short ribs and let the dish rest before serving.
