For the Crust:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 large egg
- 2 cups cherry pie filling
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 1/4 cup sliced almonds (optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C) and grease a 9Γ13-inch baking pan.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Beat the egg and mix it into the flour mixture until a dough forms.
- Press half of the dough into the prepared baking pan to form the crust.
- Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the crust. Drizzle with almond extract.
- Crumble the remaining dough over the cherry filling. Sprinkle with sliced almonds if desired.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
- Let cool completely before cutting into bars.
