Ingredients

- 2 medium onions, thinly sliced.
- 1 tablespoon canola or vegetable oil.
- 1 pound ground beef.
- 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt.
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper.
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder.
- 4 slices American cheese.
- 4 potato buns.
Instructions
- Slice onions very thin.
- Form beef into 4 equal balls.
- Heat griddle/skillet over medium-high.
- Smash beef balls, season, top with onions.
- Cook 2 minutes without disturbing.
- Flip, scraping up crispy bits.
- Steam buns on top of patties.
- Add cheese, serve when melted.
Notes
Use very thin sliced onions.
Don’t move patties while cooking.
Steam buns on meat.
Best served immediately.
