A delightful red velvet cake shaped like a Christmas tree, topped with creamy cheese frosting and festive edible ornaments for holiday celebrations.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
  • Yield: 10 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • For frosting: 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Edible ornaments: Assorted candies and sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a tree-shaped cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the oil, buttermilk, eggs, food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  6. Allow the cake to cool completely on a wire rack.
  7. For the frosting, beat the cream cheese and butter together until smooth, then gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  8. Frost the cooled cake and decorate with edible ornaments like candies and sprinkles.
  9. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to set the frosting.

Notes

Ensure the cake is fully cooled before frosting to prevent melting. Use gel food coloring for a vibrant red without altering the texture.
