- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon water
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, salt, and baking soda.
- In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until creamy.
- Add egg, water, and molasses; mix well.
- Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients and stir until combined.
- Divide dough in half, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for at least 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- On a floured surface, roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness and cut out gingerbread men shapes.
- Place cookies on prepared sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges are firm.
- Cool on wire racks before decorating.
Notes
For extra softness, do not overbake. Decorate with icing and candies for a festive touch.
