  • Dough:
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Filling:
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • For the glaze:
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add melted butter, salt, and 2 cups of flour. Mix until combined.
  3. Gradually add the remaining flour, kneading until a soft dough forms. Cover and let rise for 1 hour.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface. Spread the softened butter over the dough.
  6. Sprinkle the brown sugar, cinnamon, cayenne, and nutmeg evenly over the butter.
  7. Cut the dough into strips and shape into a Christmas tree form on the baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. While baking, prepare the glaze by whisking powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla.
  10. Remove from oven and drizzle with glaze. Let cool slightly before serving.
