Sugar Cookie Bars

Soft and chewy sugar cookie bars topped with fluffy vanilla frosting and holiday sprinkles. An easy alternative to cut-out cookies.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar.
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar.
  • 1 large egg.
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour.
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  • 4 tablespoons butter, softened.
  • 1 cup powdered sugar.
  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.
  • Christmas sprinkles.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F, line 8×8 pan.
  2. Cream butter and sugars until smooth.
  3. Add egg and extracts, mix well.
  4. Stir in dry ingredients until just combined.
  5. Bake 15 minutes until edges set.
  6. Whip frosting ingredients until fluffy.
  7. Frost cooled bars, add sprinkles.

Notes

Center firms while cooling.
Chill for cleaner cuts.
Can double recipe.
Stores well.
