For the Crust:
- For the apple filling:
- 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and sliced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- For the crumble topping:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
Instructions
1. Prepare the Crust:
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour until evenly coated. Spread into the prepared baking dish.
- In another bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt for the topping. Add cold cubed butter and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with ice cream or custard.
Notes
For extra crunch, add 1/4 cup chopped nuts to the crumble topping. Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven for best texture.
