Homemade Apple Crumble

A warm and comforting apple crumble with a buttery, crisp topping. Perfect served with vanilla ice cream or custard for a classic dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Crust:

  • For the apple filling:
  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • For the crumble topping:
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions

1. Prepare the Crust:

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with granulated sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour until evenly coated. Spread into the prepared baking dish.
  3. In another bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt for the topping. Add cold cubed butter and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Sprinkle the crumble topping evenly over the apples.
  5. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly.
  6. Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm with ice cream or custard.

Notes

For extra crunch, add 1/4 cup chopped nuts to the crumble topping. Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven for best texture.
